If you are a racing fan, a person of mechanical inclination, or any sort of geared, you'll want to take a trip to the Museum of American Speed in Lincoln, Nebraska. The private collection of the late "Speedy" Bill Smith, founder and owner of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , is one of the largest collection of early American race cars, engines, and other memorabilia in the world, and has been ranked by many publications as one of the nation's top 10 car museums. The museum is only open for two hours every week, from 2 to 4 pm on Fridays. I was lucky enough to get in today and take some pictures of one of the most amazing private collections in America. If you aren't in to race cars, there are quite a few incredibly rare and valuable road cars in the collection as well. I will also share this to LaLD, because it is one of the largest private collections of vintage pedal/model cars in the world.

One of my aunts has a model of a 53 that's made of porcelain. Apparently it was something GM sent to the dealerships at the time and my grandpa used to be a service manager at a Chevy dealership.

It's long been one of my dream cars, even with that little underpowered inline-6.

Argh, the name escapes me, but the dad of a friend from high school had a C1 and I've ridden and driven it. "Blue flame" 6 and 2 speed auto, white with red interior just exactly like those photos. I would swear it was a 53, but I'm not 100% sure. I won't tell you how stupid we were or how careless and unknowing (this was back in 1972), but there are C1-sized tire tracks in some guys front yard where my buddy ran off the road trying to light a cigar while he was driving. Oh to have some time with that car now.

Wow, that is an incredible collection. I especially love all the old race cars. I'll have to add this to my must-see list if I am in the area.
